Sewing baby clothes, even as a beginner
With the 6 patterns from this set, you can definitely get started even as a beginner. The shirt, pants, rompers, bodysuit and hat are very quick and easy to sew. You don't need to worry about the sweat jacket with zipper either. If you take your time and follow it step by step, you're sure to succeed! With the detailed sewing instructions, the patterns will really put you in a good mood! So, don't waste any time and get started :-)
The e-book takes you step by step with lots of pictures, making cutting and sewing child's play. The e-book also contains a small basic section in which common terms and sewing vocabulary are briefly explained. Printing and gluing the pattern together is also explained in detail!
The Body CERIA
The CERIA bodysuit should be in every baby's wardrobe, because this cut is something different. The CERIA baby bodysuit has cool raglan sleeves and is closed with snap fasteners on one side of the neckline. This is not only very practical, but also has a great side effect: the neck area fits perfectly and the little ones are never naked around the neck. To ensure that everything fits perfectly, we made sure that the (cloth) diaper bottom is well wrapped up when designing the cut. CERIA is practically closed with snap fasteners in the crotch. You can sew the baby bodysuit in the long-sleeved version or choose the short version.
The name CERIA
There couldn't be a better name. Bet you? CERIA is Indonesian and means "cheerful" and the good mood is guaranteed to start right when you start sewing!
Fabric recommendation:
To be honest, jersey is the best choice for the CERIA baby bodysuit. Look for high-quality materials such as cotton jersey, jersey made from Tencel/Lyoncell, cotton-bamboo blends or even merino wool jersey. Jersey is stretchy, unbeatably comfortable on bare skin and beautifully soft for baby skin. A clear plus point is of course that cotton jersey can be washed in the washing machine at 60°. This is an important aspect, especially for baby underwear. In addition to cotton jersey, jersey fabrics made from other fibers such as silk or viscose are also suitable. And thin, stretchy French terry qualities work great too. You also need cuff fabric.
Fabric consumption:
For the CERIA body you need the following amounts of fabric (based on 150 cm fabric width plus seam allowances and buffer):
size 56 - 68 0.50 m
size 74 - 86 0.55 m
size 92 - 98 0.60 m
For Body CERIA in all sizes you also need:
- For reinforcement of the snap fasteners e.g. Vlieseline H609
- cuff fabric for the cuffs (approx. 30 cm)
- Snap fasteners, especially for the wrap opening, the small Prym Jersey snap fasteners with 8mm have proven themselves.
- matching sewing thread
The romper BUMI
The BUMI romper is a really well thought-out romper. The one-piece is buttoned up very conveniently and simply on the rounded straps, just like on the optional changing opening on the legs. This practical detail makes BUMI really suitable for everyday use when changing diapers! Cuffs that grow with the baby mean that the legs are covered even when the baby is being carried, and promise long-lasting fun with the romper. BUMI can be sewn either in one layer with a facing on top or in two layers with full lining. Everything is explained step by step in our instructions, as are simple adjustments so that the romper fits particularly well to the individual! There is even a summer version with short legs.
The name BUMI
BUMI is Indonesian and means earth. For all the new earthlings who will be dressed in these cute rompers!
Fabric recommendation:
Jersey, Nicki, sweat, French terry, sweat, elastic double-face fabrics, elastic corduroy, or not too flowing jacquard are suitable for the BUMI baby romper. You will also need cuff fabric for the leg ends.
Fabric consumption:
Fabric consumption for a fabric width of 150 cm (including seam allowance and some buffer):
Front and back:
Size 56 - 68 = 70 cm
Size 74 - 80 = 80 cm
Size 86 - 98 = 90 cm
bib cover:
If the fabric is 150 cm wide, this can be cut from the fabric for the front and back, or you can use a different fabric, in which case you will need approx. 25 cm.
If you want to sew a fully lined version , you will need twice the amount of fabric for the front and back instead of the bib facing, i.e. once from the outer fabric and once from the lining fabric.
In all sizes you also need:
- For reinforcement of the snap fasteners e.g. Vlieseline H609
- cuff fabric for the cuffs (approx. 30 cm)
- Snap fasteners, especially for the wrap opening, the small Prym Jersey snap fasteners with 8mm have proven themselves.
- matching sewing thread
The pants SERU
The SERU pants are just the thing for kicking, rolling and crawling! The SERU baby pants have a super comfortable cut and look great. The yoke and the fake fly at the front look great. Cuffs with elasticated waistband and hem are particularly practical in everyday life and underline the feel-good character of the SERU baby pants.
The name SERU
SERU shows us how exciting a trouser cut can be. It's no wonder that the name says it all. SERU is Indonesian and means exciting.
Fabric recommendation:
The trouser cut is designed for woven fabrics. There are great, simple fabrics like jeans or corduroy - now also in very soft qualities, ideal for the very little ones. Of course, non-stretchy fabrics like linen, muslin, velour or poplin are also recommended.
It is best to sew the waistband and the leg ends from the same fabric as the pants. An elastic band is inserted to ensure that the waistband stays in place. Alternatively, we recommend cuff fabric for the very little ones.
Fabric consumption:
For the SERU baby pants you need the following amount of fabric (based on 140 cm fabric width plus seam allowances and buffer):
You need the following amount of material:
size 56 - 62 = 50 cm
size 68 - 74 = 60 cm
size 80 - 86 = 65 cm
size 92 - 98 = 70 cm
In all sizes
- Elastic band, 2-3 cm wide, in waist size
- matching sewing thread
- If necessary, cuffs
The shirt KERDIL
The KERDIL baby shirt with an American neckline is extremely practical for the little ones and looks great thanks to the overlapping shoulders. You can choose to work the neckline with elastic edging or cuffs. We show you both versions in the e-book. Great effects can be achieved with color-contrasting edging and cuffs. The hems are simply folded over and stitched. If you like it a bit sportier, you can of course also add a cuff. KERDIL is also available in long sleeves for the cooler season and as a short sleeve version for the sunny months. You can definitely use this cut all year round.
The name KERDIL
Oh, how well this name fits, doesn't it? KERDIL is Indonesian and means dwarf. Simply perfect for this cute dwarf outfit, we think.
Fabric recommendation:
Stretchy fabrics such as jersey, knit fabrics and summer sweats are suitable for the KERDIL baby shirt. Elastic Nicki or jersey with a corduroy look also work well. With sweatshirt fabrics, make sure that they are cross-elastic. Otherwise the sleeves could be too tight. Thin jerseys are of course recommended especially for the summer months.
Fabric consumption:
For the KERDIL shirt you need the following amounts of fabric (based on 150 cm fabric width plus seam allowances and buffer):
variant without cuffs
size 56 - 74 0.45 cm
size 80 - 98 0.50 cm
You can choose to work the neckline with elastic edging, folded elastic or ribbed fabric. In total, you will need a strip that is about 75 cm long.
The KRIM jacket
The KRIM jacket is a cool sweat jacket with or without a hood. Sporty raglan seams, hood with central stripe, attached kangaroo pocket, practical zipper with chin protection and hem and sleeve cuffs. You can't get more clever features than this, can you? As an alternative to the hood, you can also quickly sew on a neck cuff.
The name KRIM
We are particularly proud of this name because it suits this unbeatable favorite piece so well. KRIM is Indonesian and means "cream". This sweat jacket is simply the icing on the cake. ;)
Fabric recommendation:
Classic sweat, French terry, jersey, velour, jacquard or even elastic corduroy are suitable for the KRIM baby sweat jacket. You can either sew the waistband and the sleeve hems from the same fabric as the jacket, provided it is a little stretchy, or we recommend cuff fabric.
Fabric consumption:
For the KRIM baby sweat jacket you need the following amounts of fabric (based on 140 cm fabric width plus seam allowances and buffer):
size 56 - 74 = 80 cm
size 80 - 98 = 90 cm
Divisible zipper:
Also available in all sizes:
- If necessary, cuffs
- Framilon band
- matching sewing thread
The MINIFLIP hat
The MINIFLIP hat is a fold-over ear hat that can be sewn with different cuffs (straight cuffs and ear cuffs, optionally made of jersey or cuffs, with or without ties). The hat fits snugly on the head and doesn't slip. MINIFLIP can be sewn in double sizes 39/40 to 53/54. If you want to wear it under a bicycle helmet, you can simply fold the ears back.
