The universal needle is used for woven fabrics. It has a slightly rounded tip. It is suitable for woven fabrics such as poplin, cotton woven fabrics, muslin, linen, canvas or corduroy.

When it comes to the question of needle thickness, there is a very simple rule of thumb that you can follow: the thickness of the needle should match the thickness of the fabric. Thin fabrics such as muslin are sewn with a 70 needle, linen or poplin with an 80 needle. Thicker fabrics such as canvas or corduroy are sewn with a 90 needle.
