Sewing rompers for babies - with optional diaper opening!
BUMI is a really well thought-out romper! The one-piece is buttoned up very conveniently and easily on the rounded straps, just like on the optional changing opening on the legs. This practical detail makes BUMI really suitable for everyday use when changing diapers! Turn-up cuffs that grow with the baby mean that the legs are covered even when the baby is being carried, and promise long-lasting fun with the romper suit. BUMI can be sewn either in one layer with a facing on top or in two layers with full lining. Everything is explained step by step in our instructions, as are simple adjustments so that the romper fits particularly well on an individual basis! There is even a summer version with short legs. BUMI is sewn from stretchy fabrics such as jersey, velour, sweat or others. A lot of plus points, right? You can get carried away and sew 2, 3 or 4 BUMIs at once. At least that's what some of our enthusiastic test sewers did! :-) The BUMI romper also makes a great gift for a new baby!
The BUMI romper is a classic baby romper that can optionally be sewn with short trouser legs for the summer. The straps are rounded and are simply turned over with a facing. For the cold season, the BUMI can also be sewn fully lined! Both the lined and the unlined version can be provided with an optional wrap-around button strip on the legs. The romper has cuffs on the legs, so it will grow with the child for a long time. Different types of sewing are explained in the instructions, so you can also sew BUMI as a reversible romper, for example!
The name BUMI
BUMI is Indonesian and means earth. For all the new earthlings who will be dressed in these cute rompers!

Fabric recommendation:
Jersey, Nicki, sweat, French terry, sweat, elastic double-face fabrics, elastic corduroy, or not too flowing jacquard are suitable for the BUMI baby romper. You will also need cuff fabric for the leg ends.
Fabric consumption:
Fabric consumption for a fabric width of 150 cm (including seam allowance and some buffer):
Front and back:
Size 56 - 68 = 70 cm
Size 74 - 80 = 80 cm
Size 86 - 98 = 90 cm
bib cover:
If the fabric is 150 cm wide, this can be cut from the fabric for the front and back, or you can use a different fabric, in which case you will need approx. 25 cm.
If you want to sew a fully lined version , you will need twice the amount of fabric for the front and back instead of the bib facing, i.e. once from the outer fabric and once from the lining fabric.
In all sizes you also need:
- For reinforcement of the snap fasteners e.g. Vlieseline H609
- cuff fabric for the cuffs (approx. 30 cm)
- Snap fasteners, especially for the wrap opening, the small Prym Jersey snap fasteners with 8mm have proven themselves.
- matching sewing thread
