Sewing a Comfortable Raglan Hoodie
A casual hoodie is always in fashion, wonderfully comfortable and very practical. The TIBU hoodie is a real all-rounder - it can be quickly pulled on all year round and provides warmth - with a classic hood to protect against wind and weather. Inspired by monk's robes, made popular by film heroes such as "Rocky": the hoodie is an indispensable part of the wardrobe. Our TIBU hoodie is available for all uses and, thanks to the raglan sleeves, is super comfortable and quick to sew. Typical details: cuffs on the sleeves and hem and an attached bum bag. And of course the hood. Because that is what ultimately gave the classic its name. Hood is English and simply means hood. The TIBU hood is not lined so that it does not pull the sweater back so heavily. TIBU is best sewn from slightly stretchy, thicker fabrics such as sweat, French terry, alpine sweat, velour, corduroy jersey or jacquard. There are practical video sewing instructions for the TIBU hoodie on the Nähfrosch YouTube channel! Check it out!
The hoodie is an absolute basic item and no wardrobe can be imagined without it. Practical, casual and so comfortable! The "simple" cut offers plenty of room to let your imagination run wild, e.g. with plotter motifs, appliqués or colorful fabrics, although the hoodie is also simply cool in one color. Or how about a (pastel) color mix? Cuffs or wide elastic band? With a bum bag or without? Hoodie cord or wide band, eyelets, buttonholes or piping eyelets offer further variation options. The TIBU pattern is perfect for reinventing again and again! The TIBU hoodie is also available for kids!
Sewing a cool hoodie, even as a beginner
The TIBU hoodie is absolutely doable even for beginners. The hood is unlined and the bum bag is easy to put on - and everything else is basically child's play. Of course, this also means that this favorite piece comes off the needle quickly :-) So it's a good idea to plan several TIBUs at once.
The e-book takes you step by step with lots of pictures, making cutting and sewing child's play. The e-book also contains a small basic section in which common terms and sewing vocabulary are briefly explained. Printing and gluing the pattern together is also explained in detail!
The name TIBU
By the way, TIBU is Indonesian and means "arrive". With this hoodie you'll feel at home straight away! Just try it out!
Fabric recommendation:
The TIBU hoodie looks best in comfortable, slightly stretchy, thicker fabrics. This turns your favorite piece into a cozy companion that you never want to take off. Ideal fabric qualities are sweat, French terry, alpine sweat, velour, corduroy jersey or jacquard.
Fabric consumption:
For the TIBU hoodie you need the following amounts of fabric (based on 140 cm fabric width plus seam allowances and buffer).
- size XS-S = 2.20 m
- size ML = 2.30 m
- Size XL-XXL = 2.40 m
- size XXXL = 2.50 m
Note: We have calculated the maximum amount you need if you sew TIBU from one fabric. The amount will be reduced according to the parts you sew from a different fabric.
Additional material:
- Eyelets and cord for the drawstring on the hood
- interfacing for reinforcement
- Framilon band
