Sewing an individual bag, even as a beginner

Sewing a simple shopper is actually very easy and that's why we can recommend PEPAK without reservation even for beginners - especially with the step-by-step instructions. However, since we have some variants with details in the e-book that are a bit trickier, we have rated the overall difficulty as "medium". You can start with the basic version and then gradually increase it - then you will have several new bags at once. Have fun!

The e-book takes you step by step with lots of pictures, making cutting and sewing child's play. The e-book also contains a small basic section in which common terms and sewing vocabulary are briefly explained. Printing and gluing the pattern together is also explained in detail!

The name PEPAK

What kind of weird name is that? PEPAK is Indonesian and means "full". So look forward to a bag that you can pack full of important little things! PEPAK will happily house all your treasures!

Fabric recommendation:

The basic version of this bag is sewn in a flash. To avoid getting bored, the e-book contains instructions for a few variations in different sizes and with different divisions. You can sew a pouch-like bag with a drawstring, with drawstring straps, bag straps and there are also a few variations for the attached outer pocket.

Materials such as canvas, cork, oilcloth, SnapPap, plastics, oilskin and ReLeda (recycled leather) are suitable for the PEPAK bag. Solid materials such as decorative fabrics, upholstery fabrics, quilted fabrics, outdoor fabrics and even jeans are also ideal. You can use cotton woven fabric for the inside.

Fabric consumption:

The amount of fabric you use depends on the version you want to sew. You can find detailed information about fabric consumption and required materials in the instructions.

  • 55-70 x 120 cm outer fabric
  • 45-60 x 120 cm inner fabric/lining

You may also need iron-on interfacing for reinforcement, zipper, fabric for inner pocket/flap pocket, bag handles or webbing with slider and D rings or eyelets and cord.
