Sewing video Shirt KEREN
Sewing a children's shirt with a slanted insert
It is wonderfully versatile, extremely casual and can be reinterpreted again and again - the KEREN pattern for kids! The pattern for girls and boys impresses with a particularly beautiful detail: a wedge worked into the side. This can be worked tone-on-tone or in a smart pattern mix, and smaller scraps of fabric can also be used here. Mesh is also possible, then KEREN becomes a sports shirt! There is also a cheeky sleeve in a fake layered look, two sleeve lengths and two neckline variants.
The name KEREN
What kind of strange name is that again? KEREN? The KEREN pattern lives up to its name. It is Indonesian and means “cool”. Girls and boys alike will be happy to confirm this! The cut is not only casually cool, but also impresses with the appropriate details.
Fabric recommendation:
Stretchy fabrics are generally suitable for the KEREN children's shirt - jerseys, knits and summer sweats. With sweatshirt fabrics, make sure that they are cross-elastic. Otherwise the sleeves could be too tight. Thin jerseys are of course also recommended, especially for the summer months.
Tip: For the V-neck version, we recommend using interfacing, such as H609, to reinforce the neckline. It is slightly stretchy and offers stability.
Fabric consumption:
The amount of fabric used for the KEREN children's shirt is of course very individual, as different fabrics are probably mixed. Tip: This cut is also a great way to use up leftovers! So take a look in your leftover boxes.
If you want to mix different fabrics, you can easily calculate the fabric consumption yourself. Simply measure the paper cut pieces in the desired size in width and height. Don't forget to double the seam allowance of 1 cm all around and the measured value in width (fraction!). In height, you need to add a hem allowance of 2 - 3 cm. Add a few cm of tolerance at the end.
As a guide for the maximum fabric consumption, for a uniform fabric (fabric width 150 cm including NZ, 3 cm hem and buffer):
long-sleeved version
Size 92 - 116: 1 m
Size 122 - 164: 1.20 m
