Summer dress with zipper

The perfect cut for the perfect appearance - whether for communion, a wedding, as a high-quality costume or for a summer party! The MERIAH dress is a simple, sleeveless dress with a round neck and is closed with a zipper at the back. The top is doubled, the wide, ruffled skirt can be chosen to be knee- or calf-length and optionally lined. A great, classic cut in which the fabric determines the look. Whether linen, satin, tulle, lace or sequins - you can create very different looks here. Optionally, you can complement MERIAH with a ribbon, a bow or a flower at the waist.

Sewing a woven dress - even as a somewhat experienced seamstress

The MERIAH dress is definitely doable. Depending on the fabric you choose, some sewing experience is helpful (linen or poplin are very useful!). But with these step-by-step instructions, even the details like the doubled top, the zipper and the gathered skirt are child's play.

The name MERIAH

Exciting and festive - two words that are the perfect description for the MERIAH dress and coincidentally, that's exactly what they mean in Indonesian.

Fabric recommendation:

MERIAH is designed for soft, flowing woven fabrics. Satin, tulle, lace or sequins are very festive, for example. Viscose, chiffon, batiste and light cotton fabrics as well as linen and light denim fabrics also look great. A nice drape is important.

For the MERIAH dress, you will of course need different amounts of fabric depending on the version. Here is the approximate fabric consumption for the version with a doubled top and midi length for different fabric widths:

Fabric width 140 cm:

• size 92-110 = 0.80 m
• size 116-134 = 1.35 m
• size 140-152 = 1.50 m
• size 158-164 = 1.90 m

Fabric width 135 cm:

• size 92-110 = 0.80 m
• size 116-134 = 1.35 m
• size 140-152 = 1.80 m
• size 158-164 = 1.90 m

Fabric width 112 cm:

• size 92-110 = 1.30 m
• size 116-134 = 1.60 m
• size 140-152 = 2.20 m
• size 158-164 = 2.30 m

If you want a floor-length dress, you have to lengthen the dress accordingly. The amount of fabric needed increases by twice the additional length. So if you lengthen the dress by 25 cm, you need 50 cm more fabric. The same applies if you want to line the skirt. Then you have to add the skirt and plan for lining fabric in the skirt length.

Depending on the variant, you will also need:

• interfacing
• (seam-concealed) zipper: size 92 = 30 cm, size 98 - 110 = 35 cm, size 116 - 122 = 40 cm, size 128 - 140 = 45 cm, size 146 - 164 = 50 cm
