Sewing video summer kimono FLORES
Bikini cover up or kimono jacket with many variations
The FLORES beach kimono is an absolute must-have this summer. Whether as a bikini cover-up or as a light, kaftan-like blouse over shorts and tops. This boho-look dressing gown is sewn in a jiffy. The convincing details of this beach kimono: Easy straight cut with cropped short sleeves or airy long sleeves. FLORES becomes a beach dress with a feminine ribbon that is tied into a bow at the front. Alternatively, the casual "cardigan" version with a tie belt is available, or completely without a fastener. You can adjust the length individually, from (short) blouses to maxi versions. Everything is easily hemmed, which is very quick with woven fabrics. The edge becomes an eye-catcher with edging or (lace) trim. FLORES is intended to be sewn from thin, light woven fabric with a beautiful drape.
You can't really call this summer must-have a simple bathrobe, it's much more than that! A kimono-style bikini beach dress is a great companion for summer days. Such a thin, colorful coat is the perfect outfit for a walk on the beach on a summer vacation. But an airy kimono isn't just perfect as beachwear - it can be worn over a shirt and jeans for everyday wear. This way, for example, even the walk to daycare gets a little holiday feeling! ;)
Sewing an airy summer kimono, even as a beginner
Anyone can make FLORES - especially with these step-by-step instructions. We have put together all the tricks so that you can sew all the variants without any special previous experience. The simple version is of course the easiest and is recommended for beginners.
The e-book takes you step by step with lots of pictures, making cutting and sewing child's play. The e-book also contains a small basic section in which common terms and sewing vocabulary are briefly explained. Printing and gluing the pattern together is also explained in detail!
The name FLORES
FLORES is a beautiful Indonesian island. The name comes from Portuguese and means "flowers". With the floral, airy FLORES kimono, you can daydream yourself onto white sandy beaches!
Fabric recommendation:
For the FLORES kimono, I recommend light, flowing woven fabrics. Traditionally, such a favorite piece is sewn from cotton or woven silk. Silk chiffons, satins, thinner viscose fabrics, polyester chiffons and batiste or lace fabrics are also ideal. A beautiful look is created with delicate, slightly transparent fabrics. The fabrics can also contain elastane, but this does not have to be the case.
Fabric consumption:
For the FLORES kimono you need different amounts of fabric depending on the variant. For the length shown in the pattern (over the bottom) you need (assuming a fabric width of 140 cm plus seam allowances and buffer):
Note: By cleverly placing the pattern pieces you will need less fabric!
Short sleeve (without attached sleeve):
- size 92 - 104 = 60 cm
- size 110 - 122 = 70 cm
- size 128 - 140 = 85 cm
- size 146 - 152 = 145 cm
- size 158 - 164 = 170 cm
Long sleeve:
- size 92 - 104 = 80 cm
- size 110 - 122 = 100 cm
- size 128 - 140 = 115 cm
- size 146 - 152 = 145 cm
- size 158 - 164 = 170 cm
For a longer version, you will need more fabric. As a guide, depending on your height, you can expect a maximum of +50 cm in the front and back for the maxi length , so a total of +1 m of fabric. It is best to measure the length individually.
