Sewing a custom hoodie, even as a somewhat experienced beginner
The KADO hoodie is absolutely doable for beginners. Our detailed instructions will guide you step by step to your new favorite piece. Nevertheless, we have classified this cut as medium in terms of difficulty. Because with pockets and a hood, this hoodie can of course still be a bit of a challenge for beginners!
The name KADO
What kind of strange name is that? KADO is Indonesian and means gift. The idea behind it is that this hoodie is a gift to yourself or a great surprise for a loved one. Who are you sewing the KADO for?
Fabric recommendation:
Of course, any fabric that stretches well is ideal, ideally sweatshirt fabrics. But jersey or jacquard also work well. It is important that it feels comfortable to wear. Because if the fabric feels good, it is unbeatable in combination with this nice, casual cut and KADO is guaranteed to be your new favorite cut.
Fabric consumption:
For the KADO hoodie, you will of course need different amounts of fabric depending on the variant. Here are some key figures for orientation (based on 150 cm fabric width plus seam allowances and buffer):
Sweater and jacket without hood
Size 92 - 110 = 1.10 m
Size 116 - 134 = 1.30 m
Size 140 - 164 = 1.50 m
dress without hood
Size 92 - 110 = 1.20 m
Size 116 - 134 = 1.60 m
Size 140 - 164 = 1.90 m
Hood all sizes = 40 cm
We have calculated the maximum amount you need if you sew your favorite piece from one fabric. Of course, the amount will be reduced depending on the pieces you sew from a different fabric.
Depending on the variant, you will also need:
- Eyelets and cord for the drawstring on the hood
- Zipper for the jacket variants - to determine the length, measure the front center plus the height of the hem cuffs
