Sewing a Racerback Top
The MANDIRI tank top (formerly MAMASUN) with a sporty racerback is an absolutely practical basic for summer. A cute detail is the small gathers on the front neckline, which gives the figure-hugging tank top a somewhat playful look. The racerback top is not only a real all-rounder in summer, it is also popular in autumn and winter! As an undershirt with a great fit, it keeps you warm on cold days. The neckline and armholes can easily be finished or edged with cuffs. The fairly simple cut means you can score points with jerseys with strong patterns and summery colors. Sewn from Sportlycra, MANDIRI is the perfect shirt for training! Or lengthen it as a cool dress!
Sewing a simple top, even as a beginner
The basic top MANDIRI can be sewn in no time at all. It consists of just 2 parts plus cuffs and is ready in no time. This way you can, for example, stock up on your holiday wardrobe at the last minute! ;)
The e-book takes you step by step with lots of pictures, making cutting and sewing child's play. The e-book also contains a small basic section in which common terms and sewing vocabulary are briefly explained. Printing and gluing the pattern together is also explained in detail!
The name MANDIRI
“MANDIRI” is Indonesian and means “independent”. You can feel independent and free in this favorite top, whether you are playing sports or strolling in the sunshine.
Fabric recommendation:
Jersey or interlock is best suited for the MANDIRI top. Cotton jersey or rib knit jersey are great materials for the top. In addition to jersey, Sportlycra is also great. For the cuffs, you can use your main fabric or cuff material. However, viscose jersey is not recommended, it is too flowy and would not hold the shape of the slim tank top well.
Fabric consumption:
For the MANDIRI top you need the following amounts of fabric (based on 140 cm fabric width plus seam allowances and buffer):
- size 34 - 38 = 1.50 m
- size 40 - 44 = 1.60 m
- size 46 - 50 = 2.00 m
- size 52 - 56 = 2.10 m
Depending on the variant, you will also need:
- cuff fabric or jersey for the cuffs approx. 20 cm
- For the hem cuff, add another 20 cm of cuff fabric or Jersey
