Summer dress with zipper

The perfect cut for the perfect appearance - whether for a wedding celebration, as a high-quality costume or for a summer party! The MERIAH dress is a simple, sleeveless dress - optionally with a round or V-neck and is closed with a zipper at the back. The top is doubled and has darts, the wide, ruffled skirt can be chosen knee-length or midi-length, i.e. between the knee and calf. The dress can optionally be lined. A great, classic cut in which the fabric determines the look. Whether linen, satin, tulle, lace or sequins - you can create very different looks here. Optionally, you can complement MERIAH with a ribbon, a bow or a flower at the waist.

Sewing a woven dress - even as a somewhat experienced seamstress

The MERIAH dress is definitely doable. Depending on the fabric you choose, some sewing experience is helpful (linen or poplin are very useful!). But with these step-by-step instructions, even the details like the doubled top, the zipper and the gathered skirt are child's play.

The name MERIAH

Exciting and festive - two words that are the perfect description for the MERIAH dress and coincidentally, that's exactly what they mean in Indonesian.

Fabric recommendation:

MERIAH is designed for soft, flowing woven fabrics. Satin, tulle, lace or sequins are very festive, for example. Viscose, chiffon, batiste and light cotton fabrics as well as linen and light denim fabrics also look great. A nice drape is important.

For the MERIAH dress, you will of course need different amounts of fabric depending on the variant. Here is the approximate amount of fabric needed for the version with a doubled top and a fabric width of 140 cm:

Knee-length dress:

• size 34-38 = 1.75 m
• size 40-44 = 1.80 m
• size 46-50 = 2.25 m
• size 52-56 = 2.30 m

Midi-length dress:

• size 34-38 = 1.95 m
• size 40-44 = 2.00 m
• size 46-50 = 2.45 m
• size 52-56 = 2.50 m

If you want to line the skirt, you will need to add the skirt cost again or include lining material in the length of the skirt.

Additional material:

• Vlieseline suitable for the fabric, e.g. Vlieseline H405
• (seam-concealed) zipper ( zip lengths: size 34-36 = 50 cm, size 40 - 56 = 55 cm (or 60 cm))
