Sewing a jersey dress with attached skirt

The GAUN dress is a dress for all occasions. Depending on the fabric, it is a real basic piece, but can also be chic. In any case, it is easy to sew and offers space for tweaking as desired. The skirt part is slightly gathered at waist height, and you can choose between a round neck or a deep V-neck. The short or long sleeves make GAUN a cut for the whole year! GAUN is sewn from stretchy fabrics such as jersey, viscose jersey, light knit, summer sweat or stretchy jacquard. The cut is knee-length, but of course the cut can be shortened or lengthened as desired.

Sewing a dress, even as a beginner

The GAUN Kids dress is easy to sew. Even beginners shouldn't have any problems with it. Gathering the skirt part is a bit of hard work, but it's not difficult. We'll explain exactly how to do it. With our instructions, you'll be able to make the dress without any problems.

The e-book takes you step by step with lots of pictures, making cutting and sewing child's play. The e-book also contains a small basic section in which common terms and sewing vocabulary are briefly explained. Printing and gluing the pattern together is also explained in detail!

The name GAUN

"GAUN" is Indonesian and means "dress". How fitting for an absolutely cute dress that no closet should be without!

Fabric recommendation:

GAUN is sewn from stretchy fabrics such as jersey, viscose jersey, light knitwear, summer sweat or stretchy jacquard. Be aware that some fabrics can be stretchy but also very thick. This could add bulk to the gathers on the skirt part! For fabrics that could stretch out quickly or warp, such as knitwear or viscose jersey, we recommend reinforcing the shoulder seams, neckline and waist seam. Flexible interfacing seam tape is suitable for this, for example, and elastic band 5 mm wide for the waist.

For the GAUN dress you need the following amounts of fabric (based on 140 cm fabric width plus seam allowances and buffer):

Size 34 - 36. - 1.60 m
Size 38 - 40 - 1.80 m
Size 42 - 48. - 2.00 m
Size 50 - 52. - 2.50 m.

You also need:

• Slightly elastic interlining strip (especially recommended for knit fabrics!): 1.30 m, e.g. Vlieseline seam tape flexible
• Elastic band to reinforce the waist seam (especially recommended for knit fabrics and viscose jersey!): 1 m, 5 mm wide
• Optional 5 cm ribbed fabric for the neckline
• Color-matching sewing thread
