Sewing a fashionable lightweight quilted jacket or vest

In the transitional period, a light quilted jacket like EMPUK is ideal because it is easy to wear and wraps you up gently. A MUST-HAVE for every wardrobe. And a fashionable eye-catcher too, because you can either hem the edges in the same tone or in a funky contrasting color with fold-over elastic. Whether you choose a hood or go with the simple collar is purely a matter of taste. The practical zipper is obligatory. The instructions show you various processing options and different looks! We recommend a light quilted fabric for this jacket, double-face is ideal because we don't line the jacket. Alternatively, softshell, boiled wool or fleece also work. In addition to the illustrated instructions, there is a sewing video !

Sew a cool jacket - even as a somewhat experienced beginner sewer

This jacket isn't really difficult to sew. Don't worry! With the step-by-step instructions, we'll show you everything in detail and take you by the hand. It's obviously helpful if you have a bit of sewing experience, because sewing in the zipper and hemming the jacket are a bit tricky. But with calm and composure, you can do it even as a beginner!

The e-book takes you step by step with lots of pictures, making cutting and sewing child's play. The e-book also contains a small basic section in which common terms and sewing vocabulary are briefly explained. Printing and gluing the pattern together is also explained in detail!

The name EMPUK

EMPUK is Indonesian and means gentle. Since the jacket feels as soft as a feather when worn, the name is incredibly fitting. Bet you?

Fabric recommendation:

Quilted fabrics that are quilted on both sides, i.e. double-faced, are important for this cut, as we are not lining the jacket. Those with a polyester outer layer are very typical. Alternatively, softshell or boiled wool also work. Fleece or teddy fleece and other "plush fabrics" with a nice back can also be used for the jacket. You also need edging and a separable jacket zipper.

For the EMPUK jacket you need the following amount of fabric (based on 133 cm fabric width including seam allowances and buffer):

Quilted fabric:

• size 34 – 38 = 1.70 m
• size 40 – 44 = 1.90 m
• size 46 – 52 = 2.30 m
• size 54 – 56 = 2.40 m

You also need:

• 1 divisible zipper
  
  • size 34 - 40: 55 cm
  • size 42 - 48: 60 cm
  • Size 50 - 56: 65 cm
• If necessary, lining fabric for the pockets
• folding rubber (at least 20 mm wide)
  • For hem, neckline, hood/collar edge, chin guard and sleeves: Size 34 - 40: 4 m; Size 42 - 56: 5 m
  • For front edge to the zipper "sew behind": 2 times zipper length plus a few cm buffer
  • For inside finishing (side seams/ pockets/ hood seam) you can also use (jersey) bias tape: 4 m
• Color-matching sewing thread
