Sewing a Short Romper
Airy and body-hugging - that's what makes the TIPIS summer romper an unbeatable piece for warm temperatures. But it gets even better. The overlapping shoulders mean the jumpsuit also sits nicely and loosely on the arm. The one-piece has a gusset in the crotch so that it sits perfectly on the diaper bottom. The whole thing is closed at the shoulders and crotch with snap fasteners, making it particularly easy to put on and change diapers. The TIPIS baby suit can be easily folded over the sleeves and legs or made with cuffs. A nice detail is the optional ruffle. We recommend comfortable jersey as the material. It's ideal. Because this stretchy all-rounder easily follows every kicking and playing movement. Thin, stretchy French terry qualities also work well.
This short romper is simply perfect for summer. You can choose between cuffs on the sleeves and trouser legs, or a classic hem. You can make the button panel on the shoulder on both sides, making it particularly easy to pull on, and the wrap button panel in the crotch is particularly practical for everyday use. The optional ruffle is a lovely detail that you can sew from leftover muslin, for example! You can also use fabric scraps for TIPIS: just add a division as you wish!
Sewing an airy baby suit - even as a beginner
A very young beginner sewer might work up a little sweat when sewing in the gusset, but with the step-by-step instructions, it can be done. And since the cut is otherwise child's play to master, we give it a clear "easy" seal. Have fun sewing!
The e-book takes you step by step with lots of pictures, making cutting and sewing child's play. The e-book also contains a small basic section in which common terms and sewing vocabulary are briefly explained. Printing and gluing the pattern together is also explained in detail!
The name TIPIS
The name of this Nähfrosch pattern is typical: TIPIS is Indonesian and means thin. And that describes this baby suit perfectly, because it is a thin layer of clothing for the summer!
Fabric recommendation:
We recommend jersey as the best material for the TIPIS baby suit. It is ideal. Look for stretchy materials such as cotton jersey, jersey made from Tencel/Lyoncell, cotton-bamboo blends or even merino wool jersey. In addition to cotton jersey, jersey fabrics made from other fibers such as silk or viscose are also suitable. And thin, stretchy French terry qualities also work well. Solid-colored fabrics are perfect for the optional ruffle. You can also use light muslin for the ruffle, for example.
Fabric consumption for a fabric width of 150 cm (including seam allowance and some buffer):
- Size 56 - 68 = 0.50 m
- Size 74 - 86 = 0.60 m
- Size 92 - 98 = 0.70 m
Additional material:
- Thin interfacing to reinforce the button strips, e.g. H609
- cuff fabric for the cuffs
- snap fasteners , approx. 10 - 13 pieces
