Sew a simple dress for babies and kids from jersey or woven fabric

PUTRI is an enchanting baby dress, perfect for any occasion or everyday life. Whether catching sunbeams or snowflakes, depending on the fabric, this cute little dress will accompany you all year round. The dress has a loose fit, a high waist and an airy ruffled skirt. This beautiful basic piece is conveniently closed at the back with (snap) buttons. Choose between short and long sleeves, as well as between a tunic length and a knee-length length. The special extra is the optional Peter Pan collar. This makes the dress really chic for going out. In terms of material, you have maximum flexibility, because PUTRI works with soft, flowing woven fabrics such as muslin, viscose (crepe), light, soft twill, linen, baby cord or soft flannel fabrics - but also works just as well in soft jersey! In addition to the illustrated instructions, there is a sewing video !

The name PUTRI

PUTRI is Indonesian and means PRINCESS. A great clothing name for the royal offspring, right?

How to sew a cute baby dress with a back button placket, even as a beginner

PUTRI is doable for everyone - especially with the great step-by-step instructions that explain every trick to you. Beginners are best off starting with the basic version, but for the Peter Pan collar, a bit of experience and our video sewing instructions will certainly help you!

The e-book takes you step by step with lots of pictures, making cutting and sewing child's play. The e-book also contains a small basic section in which common terms and sewing vocabulary are briefly explained. Printing and gluing the pattern together is also explained in detail!

Fabric recommendation:

The PUTRI baby dress is designed for soft, flowing woven fabrics. The button panel and collar in particular work very well with this fabric. Light cotton fabrics, viscose (crepe), light, soft twill, soft linen, soft flannel fabrics and muslin are great. Jersey also works well with this cut.

Fabric consumption:

For the PUTRI baby dress you need the following amounts of fabric (based on 140 cm fabric width plus seam allowances and buffer):

• size 56-68 = 65 cm
• size 74-86 = 70 cm
• size 92-104 = 75 cm

Depending on the variant, you will also need:

• buttons (approx. 4-5 pieces)
• Possibly thin rubber
• Interlining to reinforce the button panel, matching your fabric e.g. G405 or Interlining H609
