Sewing video for the PADAN wool suit
Cozy baby suit for wind and weather
Warm and softly wrapped up - the cold months can't harm the little ones at all. The PADAN pattern is just right for that - a great one-piece that is just as impressive with a button placket as it is with a zip or as a jacket! So everyone can choose the fastening they like best. Various cuff variants that promise warm fingers are also included in the pattern. Walk is of course typical for such an outdoor suit, but the one-piece is also great as a "mud suit" made of softshell or scuba, or as a cozy suit made of sweat or fleece. The pattern is ideal for carrying children, the cut is long enough so that the legs stay warm even when squatting.
The name PADAN
The name of this great one-piece is derived from the little ones' favorite activity - playing. PADAN is Indonesian and means play.
Sewing a cuddly baby suit, even as a somewhat experienced beginner
A one-piece like this doesn't look that complicated. To be honest, it isn't - especially not with these detailed instructions, but it is definitely an advantage if you have already done one or two sewing projects. In particular, the zipper and button fastening, the cuffs that grow with the wearer and the lining of the one-piece can be a bit of a challenge for beginners. That's why we have classified this cut as "medium". The special features of sewing boiled wool are explained in detail in the instructions.
The e-book takes you step by step with lots of pictures, making cutting and sewing child's play. The e-book also contains a small basic section in which common terms and sewing vocabulary are briefly explained. Printing and gluing the pattern together is also explained in detail!
Fabric recommendation:
For the PADAN one-piece, we recommend classic felted cloth, made from 100% new wool or blends with 60% viscose and 40% new wool. This is a great natural product and keeps you incredibly warm. The one-piece also looks great in other warm, thicker qualities such as fleece, sweat or quilted fabrics. Thick corduroy or softshell are of course also a great eye-catcher. For the lining, we recommend natural fabrics such as jersey, which ideally have similar material properties to the outer fabric.
Fabric consumption:
For the PADAN one-piece, you need the following amounts of fabric, each made from outer fabric and lining fabric (based on 140 cm fabric width plus seam allowances and buffer):
Size 56 - 80 = 1 m
Size 86 - 98 = 1.20 m
You can easily calculate the amount of fabric you need yourself. Simply measure the paper pieces in the desired size in width and height. Don't forget to add a seam allowance of 0.7 - 1 cm all around and double the measured value in width (breakage!). You need to add a hem allowance of 2 - 3 cm in height. Add a few cm of tolerance at the end.
Additional material:
- If necessary, cuff fabric for the cuffs
- If necessary, bias strips for the cuffs (or from the inner fabric)
- If necessary, 60 cm elastic band, 0.5 cm wide, for the hood
- If necessary 4-6 buttons or toggle buttons + ribbon + leather patches
- Zipper if necessary: The zipper lengths are not "smooth". Choose the length for a non-divisible zipper that is as suitable as possible and adjust the zipper markings slightly if necessary. Or use an endless zipper, but make it a little longer so that you have some play.
Zipper lengths: size. 98: 44 cm, size. 92: 41 cm, size. 86: 38 cm, size. 80: 35 cm, size. 74: 32.5 cm, size. 68: 30 cm, size. 62: 27 cm, size. 56: 24.5cm
