Cozy picnic blanket with many practical extras

Who doesn't know this feeling? Pack a few treats, get on your bike and head out into nature! Find a spot in the countryside, spread out the picnic blanket and enjoy the peace and quiet. You can also take your very own picnic blanket with you on your next trip. And the best thing - we've thought of a few practical details: pockets for storing essentials such as cutlery and napkins, for example, and eyelets for securing the blanket to the ground - you'll obviously need a few pegs for this :-) And if you're travelling with little ones, you can also attach a net with sandals to the snap hook.

You can sew DUDUK to your own measurements without a pattern! Of course, we will give you a recommendation for the dimensions of the blanket and the pockets, which you can vary as you wish.

Sew an individual pocket blanket - even as a beginner!

It's not so easy to classify the sewing level for the picnic blanket. Basically, it's two layers of fabric that are edged with bias binding. Very simple! With all the details that we've thought up, it's naturally a bit trickier and advantageous if you've already sewn one or two items. Nevertheless, we're convinced that any sewing enthusiast can manage this project - with our instructions, it's sure to work!

The e-book takes you step by step with lots of pictures, making cutting and sewing child's play. The e-book also contains a small basic section in which the common terms and sewing vocabulary are briefly explained.

The name DUDUK

What kind of strange name is that? DUDUK is Indonesian and means to sit down. And that's exactly what this picnic blanket is all about - a nice place to sit down and relax!

Fabric recommendation:

I recommend two types of fabric for the picnic blanket - a soft side for the inside, which you can sit comfortably on. And a robust side for the outside, which doesn't get dirty so quickly and is a bit more robust, for example so-called "outdoor fabrics" such as Dralon, Sun+Sun, Pymagard or Agora. These are all specially designed for outdoor use. We would not recommend oilcloths and coated cotton for the outside. For the inside, where you will sit later, we recommend softer fabrics, ideally even padded and quilted patchwork fabrics, then you can save yourself the trouble of using volume fleece. Neither fabric should be stretchy. You can of course find more detailed information about fabrics in the e-book.

Fabric consumption:

Depends on the dimensions of the blanket. The easiest way is to base your measurements on the width of the fabric, then you don't have to piece it together.

  • desired length of your outer fabric
  • same length of your inner fabric (make sure the fabric is the same width, or use the smaller one and cut to size.)
  • same length of volume fleece if your inner fabric is not padded
  • 2 x 30 cm fabric for the closure (can also be the outer fabric)
  • approx. 0.3 m fabric for bags (ideally also an outer fabric)
  • fleece to reinforce the closure and pockets
  • Approx. 6 m of bias tape for edging (ideally extra wide for lined picnic blankets)
  • Snap hook, D-ring and regulator for the closure
  • Snap fasteners in the desired size and eyelets (e.g. 11 mm)
  • If necessary, 20 cm long zipper for the bag
  • Matching sewing thread
  • Four pegs to fix the blanket on the lawn
