Versatile clothing construction kit with drop closure
Casual dress MENARI is a simple dress pattern for all occasions. A real dress construction kit with many variations is waiting to be sewn by you! Whether it's a long-sleeved autumn dress or a short-sleeved spring dress, the MENARI cut can be transformed into any look from sporty to chic and offers a wide range of cut variations - from the casual version with elastic to the playful version with a ruffled hem. There's even a blouse length! Choose between two sleeve widths.
The MENARI dress is closed with a drop closure in the middle back, so that it can be made of either blouse fabrics, muslin or linen can be sewn, or quite comfortably from (viscose) jersey, French terry or velour as a cozy winter dress.
Choose from:
- Blouse or dress (length as desired, e.g. maxi)
- Sleeves short or long, normal or moderately wide
- Long sleeve optionally hemmed, with gathers or elastic
- Optional elastic or tie band at waist
- Optional hem ruffle or overskirt
- Alternative neckline solutions without closure for jersey
Sewing an individual dress, even as a somewhat experienced beginner
The MENARI dress is wonderfully quick and easy to sew. Depending on which details you choose, you can vary the difficulty a little. But with our detailed instructions you are well equipped and will master it wonderfully. Let's get started!
The name MENARI
MENARI is Indonesian and means “dance”. Maybe because the dress makes you want to sway to the music? Find it out of here!
Fabric recommendation:
The MENARI dress is suitable for woven fabrics as well as stretchy fabrics. Of course, soft and thin materials are best for a beautiful drape, e.g. (viscose) jersey, linen-viscose blends, muslin, voile, batiste, viscose, twill or fine knit.
If you want to sew the dress or blouse from a thicker fabric, for example French terry, sweat, jacquard, velour or velvet, you may want to choose a larger size.
Fabric consumption:
For the MENARI dress, depending on the variant, you will need the following amounts of fabric (based on 150 cm fabric width plus seam allowances and buffer):
dress with elastic waist
- Size 92 - 128 1.35 m (short sleeve 1.05 m)
- Size 134 - 164 1.65 m (short sleeve 1.25 m)
dress with hem ruffle
- Size 92 - 128 1.45 m (short sleeve 1.15 m)
- Size 134 - 164 1.75 m (short sleeve 1.35 m)
dress with attached overskirt
- Size 92 - 128 1.80 m (short sleeve 1.50 m)
- Size 134 - 164 2.20 m (short sleeve 1.90 m)
blouse variant
- Size 92 - 128 1.10 m (short sleeve 0.80 m)
- Size 134 - 164 1.40 m (short sleeve 1.00 m)
Additional material
- 1 button for the teardrop closure at the back
- a piece of elastic (e.g. hairband) or a loop made of fabric
- Elastic for waist 0.5 cm - 1 cm width, approx. 40 to 60 cm)
- Elastic for sleeves 0.5 cm - 1 cm width, approx. 30- 50 cm )
- if necessary, interfacing for reinforcement, matching the fabric e.g. G405 , approx. 40-50 cm
