Sewing a Tiered Dress with Pockets

With this trendy oversized dress you get elegance, lightness and simplicity all in one. The LANGKAH dress feels comfortable in summer and winter. It swings around the body carefree, looks chic as a school dress or flower girl dress, for example, and allows freedom of movement. An airy, swirling dress with long or short sleeves for little whirlwinds. The two attached tiers make the dress wonderfully airy. When you turn, the panels move around you in a lively manner. The LANGKAH tiered dress has a beautiful button panel in the front center and is sewn from woven fabrics such as linen, flannel, muslin, batiste or others. The LANGKAH pattern is also available for women!

Sewing a dress, even as an advanced beginner

The LANGKAH tiered dress is actually easy to sew. We explain how to gather the tiers, and putting the dress together is no problem. But of course a button panel is a bit of a challenge, which is why we have rated the difficulty as "medium".

The name LANGKAH

LANGKAH is Indonesian and means "step". There is probably no more fitting name for a tiered dress, because the name says it all!

Fabric recommendation:

Non-stretchy fabrics such as linen, batiste, poplin, flannel, muslin, chambray, light denim or other shirt and blouse fabrics are suitable for the dress. The fabric can have a little body and should not be extremely flowing.

Fabric consumption:

For the LANGKAH tiered dress you need the following amount of fabric (based on 140 cm fabric width including seam allowances and buffer):

size 98/104 - 1.20 m
size 110/116 - 1.30 m
size 122/128 - 1.50 m
size 134/140 - 1.60 m
size 146/152 - 1.70 m
size 158/164 - 1.80 m

You also need:

• 1 m elastic band, 1 cm wide
• 5 - 6 buttons
• depending on the fabric, iron-on interfacing for the button placket
• If you don't want to make the neckline binding out of your fabric, you will need bias binding.
• Color-matching sewing thread
