Sewing simple wide trousers in Marlene style

High in the waist, wide in the leg - if you are looking for trousers for a perfect appearance - et voilà! The AWAH trousers are guaranteed to attract attention. Although the cut is simple - wide cut and with an elastic waistband - it makes a big impression. The AWAH palazzo trousers are casual and look classy and elegant, depending on the fabric you choose. Softly falling woven fabrics or pleats are important, or for the casual homewear look of the Marlene trousers, fine knit. It is important to combine the extravagant trousers correctly, with a slim top tucked into the waistband (or even belly-baring) and high heels. This gives the outfit a stretched look. You can vary the length of AWAH: floor-length or 3/4 length as culottes. You can optionally combine seam pockets with them, they are included in the pattern.

Casual, chic, unusual! That's the AWAH trousers. In the style of Marlene trousers or palazzo trousers, they have a swinging wide leg and a high waist. These trousers are a real all-rounder: They create a great figure, are super stylish and go with everything. It is important to combine them with a slim and/or short top and, if necessary, tuck it into the trousers so that the waist is optimally accentuated. The wide trouser leg skilfully conceals and plays around with small bulges and combined with high heels or more pointed flats such as ballerinas, you can conjure up endlessly long legs. Of course, you can also combine the AWAH with sneakers in a very casual way. For spring and summer, sew the AWAH as trendy cropped culottes! These pull-on trousers can be sewn in no time at all.

Sewing fashionable woven trousers, even as a beginner

These pants can be your beginner project, because AWAH is incredibly easy to sew. The prerequisite is that you don't start with challenging fabrics right away. Because with qualities like pleats, a little sewing experience doesn't hurt. So try it first with a soft, flowing "standard" fabric like viscose woven fabric.

The e-book takes you step by step with lots of pictures, making cutting and sewing child's play. The e-book also contains a small basic section in which common terms and sewing vocabulary are briefly explained. Printing and gluing the pattern together is also explained in detail!

The name AWAH

AWAH is Indonesian and means "Oh...". No more words are needed to describe this cut ;-) Simply unbeatably elegant!

Fabric recommendation:

Softly falling woven fabrics are ideal for the AWAH trousers. Linen, muslin, twill and other light trouser fabrics are recommended for light summer trousers. The AWAH can also be a little warmer for autumn and winter, for example you can use suit fabrics made of wool or soft corduroy. Viscose crepe is also an ideal material. AWAH is of course really suitable for business when made from suit and costume fabrics. A pleated fabric creates a great look. For cozy homewear trousers you can also use a fine knit.

Fabric consumption:

For the trousers you need (based on 140 cm fabric width plus seam allowances and buffer):

  • size 92 - 104 = 85 cm
  • size 110 - 112 = 100 cm
  • size 128 - 140 = 1.80 m
  • size 146 - 152 = 1.90 m
  • size 158 - 164 = 2.10 m

The length of the trousers ends at the ankle. If you want the trousers to be shorter or extra long, the amount of fabric used will change accordingly. The waistband of the AWAH trousers is sewn from the trouser fabric, with elastic built in, 5 cm wide. You can of course use a slightly narrower elastic, but then you should adjust the cuff height accordingly. You will need the length of the elastic according to your waist measurement.
