Sewing video Shirt KEREN
shirt with side insert
It is wonderfully versatile, extremely casual and can be reinterpreted again and again - the KEREN pattern is available for kids, women and men! The cut impresses with a particularly beautiful detail: a wedge incorporated into the side. This can be worked tone-on-tone or in a smart pattern mix, and smaller scraps of fabric can also be used here. Mesh is also possible, then KEREN becomes a sports shirt! There is also a cheeky sleeve in a fake layered look, two sleeve lengths and two neckline variants - round or V-neck. The shirt is slightly fitted in the women's version.
The KEREN shirt is not just another shirt, but is made particularly interesting by the wedge in the side seam. The convertible shirt can be sewn with either a round or V-neck. The sleeves can be made as short sleeves or in a fake layered look, but a long, continuous sleeve is also possible. The KEREN cut accompanies you all year round! In the women's version, KEREN is slightly tailored, while for kids and men it is cut straight.
Tip: You can use leftover fabric for the side insert and the short sleeves!
Sewing a special shirt, even as a somewhat ambitious beginner
This pattern is actually quite easy to sew, but adding the side part and the fake layered look sleeves requires a little more attention. That's why we've rated the pattern as medium difficulty. But thanks to detailed and illustrated instructions, even beginners will have a lot of fun sewing.
The e-book takes you step by step with lots of pictures, making cutting and sewing child's play. The e-book also contains a small basic section in which common terms and sewing vocabulary are briefly explained. Printing and gluing the pattern together is also explained in detail!
The name KEREN
What kind of strange name is that again? KEREN? The KEREN pattern lives up to its name. It is Indonesian and means "cool". Girls and boys alike will be happy to confirm this! The cut is not only casually cool, but also impresses with the appropriate details.
Fabric recommendation:
Stretchy fabrics are generally suitable for the KEREN shirt - for example jerseys, knits and summer sweats. With sweatshirt fabrics, make sure that they are cross-elastic. Otherwise the sleeves could be too tight. We recommend a matching cuff fabric for the neckline.
Tip: For the V-neck version, we recommend using interfacing, such as H609, to reinforce the neckline. It is slightly stretchy and offers stability.
Fabric consumption:
As a guide for the maximum fabric consumption, for a uniform fabric (fabric width 150 cm including NZ, 3 cm hem and buffer):
- size 34-38 = 1.25 m
- size 40-44 = 1.50 m
- size 46-50 = 1.60 m
- size 52-56 = 1.90 m
And here is the approximate fabric consumption for the short-sleeved version made from just one fabric:
- size 34-38 = 1.00 m
- size 40-44 = 1.25 m
- size 46-50 = 1.45 m
- size 52-56 = 1.65 m
