Sewing a Jersey Dress with a Gathered Neckline
With a gathered neckline and feminine cut, the ELOK dress is a real winner! Quickly sewn from stretchy fabrics like jersey, it hugs the hips beautifully with a beautiful A-line. Thanks to the simple darts at the waist, the ELOK dress has a super fitted fit. The WOW effect comes with the wonderfully finely gathered elastic neckline. And the best thing: you can put the cut together according to your preferences! You can choose from: flat and deep neckline, short or long sleeves as well as 3/4 sleeves and two hem lengths, above or below the knee. Of course, you can also shorten your ELOK dress to a mini length, or sew it as a maxi dress! And there is also a shirt length! Thanks to the deep neckline version, ELOK is also ideal for breastfeeding!
Thanks to the many variations, you can always reinvent the ELOK dress. The neckline gathered with a narrow elastic band and the A-shape waisted with darts remain characteristic. But whether the neckline should be flat or deep, the sleeves long, short or 3/4 and of course the skirt length, that's up to you! Two skirt lengths are marked in the pattern: above the knee and midi - that is, covering the knees. Of course, you can also sew your ELOK dress as a mini dress, or you can lengthen it as a maxi dress. And if you don't have enough fabric - just sew ELOK as a shirt!
Sewing a dress, even as a beginner
This cut is really child's play and therefore absolutely suitable for beginners. Even the elastic neckline, which seems so tricky, is very easy to work with. We simply fold in the seam allowance and work without facings. This is definitely the easiest way to sew a tunnel. You don't need to worry about the darts either, we'll explain exactly how to do it. So go ahead and get to the machine!
The e-book takes you step by step with lots of pictures, making cutting and sewing child's play. The e-book also contains a small basic section in which common terms and sewing vocabulary are briefly explained. Printing and gluing the pattern together is also explained in detail!
The name ELOK
ELOK is Indonesian and means "beautiful". That also describes the look of the dress best - a beautiful dress, very feminine thanks to the great neckline.
Fabric recommendation:
The best fabrics for the dress are stretchy fabrics with a nice drape, such as fine knits, jersey, viscose jersey, cupro, stretchy jacquard or other elastic dress fabrics. The fabric should not be too heavy and should have a flowing drape.
Fabric consumption:
For the ELOK dress, you will of course need different amounts of fabric depending on the variant. Here are some key figures for orientation (based on a fabric width of 150 cm including seam allowances and buffer):
Short hem variant and long or 3/4 sleeve
XS - S = 1.75 m, ML = 1.90 m, XL - XXL = 1.95 m
Long hem variant and long or 3/4 sleeve
XS - S = 2.10 m, ML = 2.30 m, XL - XXL = 2.40 m
Short hem variant and short sleeve
XS - S = 1.35 m, ML = 1.50 m, XL - XXL = 1.80 m
Long hem variant and short sleeve
XS - S = 1.85 m, M - L = 1.90 m, XL - XXL = 2.25 m
Only top with long sleeves
XS - S = 1.45 m, M - L = 1.50 m, XL - XXL = 1.55 m
Short sleeve top only
XS - S = 0.95 m, M - L = 1.00 m, XL - XXL = 1.10 m
You also need:
- Narrow elastic (0.5 cm wide) for the neckline
