sewing blazers
The blazer is definitely a classic and no wardrobe should be without it. Casually combined with jeans or elegantly combined with a dress, with the WANITA blazer pattern in sizes 34 - 56 you will always perfectly complement your outfit. Thanks to dividing seams in the front and back as well as on the sleeves, the unlined cut is beautifully close to the body. The shawl collar is available in two widths and has a clear advantage: In contrast to the classic lapel, it is definitely easier to sew! The optional patch (flap) pockets are trendy. Whether you put a button in the waist or prefer a tie belt is also up to you. The WANITA blazer made of tweed, linen or jeans, for example, will become your very own, new favorite piece!
The WANITA blazer has a classic, close-fitting cut and you can choose between two collar shapes of different widths. The optional patch pockets are trendy. In contrast to the classic cut, these sit a little higher and give a modern look - especially if you sew them as trendy flap pockets. Of course, you can position the pockets as you like. The blazer is sewn very simply without lining. You can sew it without a fastener, or with a tie belt or the classic way with one or two buttons at the waist.
Sewing a jacket, even as a somewhat advanced sewer
This cut is a bit of a challenge - without question. And we thought long and hard about whether we could even classify the WANITA blazer as "medium". But our test sewers did a great job with the instructions! Of course, you should have some sewing experience so that you can adjust the fit as best as possible. After all, the blazer should fit perfectly. You'll definitely be able to sew it well with our instructions. Go for it! The cut isn't as difficult as it might seem at first glance.
The e-book takes you step by step with lots of pictures, making cutting and sewing child's play. The e-book also contains a small basic section in which common terms and sewing vocabulary are briefly explained. Printing and gluing the pattern together is also explained in detail!
The name WANITA
There could hardly be a more fitting name for this cut. WANITA is Indonesian and means "woman". We think that a blazer is a great piece of clothing to emphasize your feminine side in a classic way :-)
Fabric recommendation:
The best fabric for a blazer is a woven fabric with a nice, heavy drape. It can be a little stretchy for comfort, but the fabric ideally needs a firm base structure and some stability.
Typical qualities include classic wool fabrics such as tweed, twill, gabardine or wool blends, as well as corresponding qualities made of cotton. Corduroy, jeans, bouclé, satin, velvet or heavy (!) jersey (e.g. Romanit jersey) also look great.
And absolutely recommended for summer - linen and bamboo!
For the WANITA blazer you will need approximately the following amounts of fabric:
Size 34 - 40 = 2.40m
Size 42 - 48 = 2.50m
Size 50 - 56 = 2.60m
You also need:
- Tape for reinforcing edges, e.g. forming tape
- possibly buttons
- possibly iron-on interfacing, e.g. Vlieseline G405 or Vlieseline H410
