Sewing Video Pants RAS
The RAS trousers are quick to sew, comfortable trousers with straight legs. (Not baggy trousers.) Very suitable for beginners! What's special about the RAS trousers: The pattern consists of just one single piece that is cut on the fold. The trousers are therefore only closed with a seam on the bottom, there are no seams on the front or sides. This means that they can be sewn extremely quickly from elastic fabrics such as jersey, summer sweat, sweat, terry cloth or even velour.
Typically, cuffs are provided on the stomach and legs, but they can also be hemmed or an elastic tunnel sewn in instead. The fit of the RAS trousers can be easily adjusted to suit your needs. The pattern calls for long trousers, but the leg length can be shortened to 3/4 or shorts according to your own ideas. Pockets are not included in the pattern itself, but any type of patch pocket (eg bum bag) or piping pocket can be added.
The name RAS
What kind of weird name is that? RAS is Indonesian and means running. The perfect name for sweatpants, even if you might just be lounging around on the couch in them. ;)
fabric consumption
Women's trousers: For all sizes 34-50 you need about 130cm of stretchy fabric. If you want to hem the leg ends or sew a folded elastic tunnel, you will need more fabric.
Children's trousers: For all sizes 92-122 you need at least 70cm of stretchy fabric. For all sizes 128-164 you need at least 100cm of stretchy fabric. If you want to hem the leg ends or sew a folded elastic tunnel, you will need more fabric at the top and bottom.
Baby pants: For all sizes 56-68 you need 40cm of stretchy fabric. For all sizes 74-92 you need 50cm of stretchy fabric. If you want to hem the leg ends or sew a folded elastic tunnel, you will need more fabric at the top and bottom.
Men's trousers:
Attention: Due to the width of the RAS men's trousers, you can only cut them on the fold if you turn the fabric 90 degrees (i.e. sideways!). Keep this in mind if you want to use a patterned fabric. Alternatively, you can cut the trousers in 2 pieces instead of on the fold, but then add seam allowance to the actual fold. And you will need more fabric!
For the men's trousers RAS you need the following amount of fabric (based on 140 cm fabric width including seam allowances and buffer):
Version with cuffs, cut across the fold:
Main material:
Size XS: 1 m
Size S - L: 1.20 m
Size XL-XXXL: 1.45 m
If you want to hem the leg ends or sew a folded elastic tunnel, you will need more fabric.
Cuff fabric:
This depends on how wide the cuff tube is! You may need twice the length of cuff if you have to cut it in two pieces rather than in half for the waistband. Ideally, 25 cm of cuff fabric is enough, but if it is very narrow, you will need 50 cm.
